Our History

New Leaf Energy was formed in July 2022, though our roots extend back to 2001. Our business, leadership, and employees originated from the development arm of Borrego, a leading national EPC and O&M provider originally founded in 1980. Our core team has been developing solar energy projects since 2001 — first starting in California, then New England, on to New York, Illinois, Maine, and beyond. Executive leaders Dan Berwick, Brendan Neagle, and Andrew Reed were long-time executives of Borrego working alongside Borrego’s CEO Mike Hall. Now, they’re leading New Leaf Energy along with Jacqueline Ashmore, EVP of Engineering. In July 2022, ECP purchased Borrego’s development arm to establish New Leaf Energy as an independent company, in service of its mission to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy.
